On September 14, Jaguar celebrates its 80th anniversary. Quite a bit has changed in the course of those eight decades. Jaguar has evolved from an unknown to a global brand and household name. The world around them has evolved as well, as subcompact and full-size SUVs have come to dominate the market. Viewed in that light, the 2016 Jaguar F Pace simply represents the next logical step in Jaguar’s evolution as it enters its ninth decade.

Jaguar has taken pains to point out that the F-Pace will be a Jaguar first, and an SUV second. The Jaguar nameplate and all that goes with it — not just the luxury and gorgeous design, mind you, but the horsepower and sporty handling — will still be front and center. While you’d expect a car manufacturer to say that, there’s reason to believe that the design team at Jaguar means what they say. After all, the Jaguar name brings with it certain expectations when it comes to driving; you buy a Jaguar for the unique driving experience it offers.

The design and construction of the 2016 Jaguar F-Pace also suggests that this SUV will drive very much like a Jaguar should. It uses plenty of aluminum in its construction, keeping weight down while adding to fuel economy and handling, but without sacrificing strength. Handling should be nimble thanks to brake-based torque vectoring borrowed from the Jaguar F-Type, and the engines (a supercharged 3.0 L V6 and one or more Ingenium four-cylinders) promise ample power.

The 2016 Jaguar F-Pace will make its first official appearance on September 15 at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and will make its first appearance at Jaguar of Peabody early next year. If you’ve never driven a Jaguar, or if it’s been a while, stop by the Jaguar of Peabody showroom in Peabody, MA and try out the spacious Jaguar XJ or a sporty Jaguar F-Type to whet your appetite for the F-Pace when it makes its way to our showroom.
