Your fun fact of the week: a large group of jaguars is called a “jamboree.” Of course, any pack has its leader, and at Jaguar Peabody, that alpha position belongs to the 2018 Jaguar F-TYPE SVR.

The Jaguar F-TYPE SVR has some things — including its engine — in common with the Jaguar F-TYPE R. The latter car, however, has something of a disadvantage: it hasn’t gotten a once-over from Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations. The SVO team wrung extra torque and horsepower out of the V-8 engine for 575 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.

They didn’t stop there, of course. Adaptive all-wheel drive contributes excellent handling, while the extensive use of titanium and carbon fiber trims weight. When all is said and done, the net result is a 3.5-second zero-to-sixty time and a 195 mile per hour top speed (that’s in the convertible, mind you — opt for the coupe and you can top out at 200 miles per hour).

While every new Jaguar car shows great road manners and offers plenty of comfort, this isn’t the kind of car you buy for refinement. You’re buying it because it delivers enough power to bring a smile to your face on demand.

We confess to feeling mildly silly calling a group of cats a jamboree. But that’s why we deal with Jaguar cars, and not the four-legged variety. They’re every bit as graceful, but with these dashing looks (and that lovely exhaust note), you won’t be sneaking up on anyone. This is, after all, a sports car that’s engineered to stand out.
